Glasgow Central Citizens' Advice Bureau

Money Advice Service in Glasgow

Within our Bureau we have an innovative and progressive team dedicated to meeting the needs of Glaswegians. When the opportunity arose to extend our services to provide Money Advice we jumped at the chance.

The concept is simple - we want to help individuals, groups and families before they get into serious financial trouble and hopefully avoid difficult to manage debt problems.

Glasgow Central CAB is the lead provider in Glasgow and along with Drumchapel and Parkhead we can provide face-to-face sessions with our dedicated Money Advisers. At Glasgow Central CAB we can fast track your enquiry if you call our dedicated line, 0141 559 6292, answer a few simple questions and secure yourself an appointment. Our service has also been used by responsible employers to help employees during restructuring or a redundancy situation. Other advice giving organisations can also refer clients to us in this way. Independent charitable organisations should use the dedicated triage assessment line on 0808 8000 118 when referring clients. It should be stressed that individuals and statutory bodies can make referrals.

The Service is designed for 18 years and over. It can be made available to those aged 16 and 17 if accompanied at all sessions by someone over 18.

Here is a brief outline of the aims of the Service:

Provide unbiased money advice on a wide range of financial topics, including:

  • Budgeting and financial planning.
  • Savings and investments.
  • Borrowing.
  • Protecting and insuring the individual, family and possessions.
  • Retirement planning.
  • Understanding tax and welfare benefits.

Advisers will help clients to the point where they can:

  • Choose between options.
  • Understand the consequences of doing nothing.
  • Develop personal financial strategies.
  • Help them take actions to manage their financial affairs.

The Service does not provide regulated financial advice and it is not regulated by the FSA.

This Service does not provide crisis debt advice. This can be accessed through the normal Bureau channels.

The Service does not provide cash help.

The Service boundary means that whatever the topic or product the Service:

  • Will provide unbiased money advice to users on a consistent basis for all types of product.
  • Will help users to consider their options and take actions to meet their financial needs.
  • Will not provide recommendations on whether a user should take out a financial product.
  • Will not recommend a product provided by an identified financial service.
  • Will not advise on the merits of a user verifying or disposing of an existing financial product.

If you would like to make an appointment to allow you to get a clear picture of your finances and provide an action plan to help you make the most of your money, contact us on 0141 559 6292 and we'll be happy to help.

We have prepared a template form for you to complete. This will allow us to get started as quickly as possible and will reduce the amount of time you need to spend with an adviser. You can download the form below.
